Luncheon Guest Speaker

On 24 Aug, the Langley Chapter hosted Representative Jenn Kiggans, Virginia’s 2nd District, at their luncheon. Congresswomen Kiggans spoke to how her former time as a Navy helicopter pilot, and her subsequent training as a geriatric nurse specifically focused on mental health, has driven her freshman year in Congress. She serves on Veteran’s Affairs, Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means, Armed Services and Judiciary Committees. Congresswoman Kiggans has ardently resisted the various services attempts to retire weapon systems, to include the Air Force’s F22 block 20s. Her expressed thinking is tied directly to the numbers and capabilities she has been briefed on regarding China’s rapid investment compared to that of the USA. She also spoke to the linkage between Recruiting, Retaining and Quality of Life initiatives. The audience included many active duty from Joint Base Langley-Eustis, chapter community partners, Civil Air Patrol cadets from Grafton High School, and students from Tabb High School Naval JROTC, who served as the color guard. Representative Kiggans made sure to take time with each one of them.
